Privacy policy

Last updated October 18, 2026

This policy covers metromystery.com, run by Metro Mystery LLC, Houston, Texas ("we", "us"). Our browser games on their own domains (Deckthello, LetterMatrix, Word Dropper and Gather Games Online) and Dual Fuse on Steam have their own policies.

At a glance

What	Why	How long
Your email, if you sign up	To send the Dual Fuse launch email	Until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it
Scoreboard name and score, if you submit one	To show the Byte Patrol worldwide scoreboard	While it stays in the top 100, or until you ask us to remove it
A keyed one-way hash of your IP address	Rate limiting to stop spam and cheating	60 seconds
Your local best scores	So the game remembers your scores	On your device only, until you clear site data
Standard web server logs	Hosting, security and fixing errors	Per our host's retention (see below)

Email signup

If you enter your email to hear about Dual Fuse, we send it to our email provider, Klaviyo, which stores it on our launch list. You'll get a confirmation email first (double opt-in), and every email has an unsubscribe link. We only use your email to tell you about our games. We never sell or rent it.

Byte Patrol worldwide scoreboard

Byte Patrol, the mini game on our home page, has an optional worldwide scoreboard. If you enter a name after a high score, we store that name (up to 6 letters or numbers) and your score, plus a random ID for that run, in a database hosted by Upstash, and show the top 10 publicly. We keep only the top 100 scores; anything below that is deleted automatically. Please don't use your real name or anything personal as your scoreboard name. Ask us at the address below and we'll remove an entry.

Rate limiting

To keep the scoreboard fair, we limit how often scores can be sent. To do that we turn your IP address into a one-way hash keyed with a secret only our server knows, and use it as a counter that is deleted after 60 seconds. Without that secret the hash can't be linked back to your IP address. We don't store your raw IP address for this, and we don't use the hash for anything else.

Browser storage

The game saves your local best scores in your browser's localStorage. That data stays on your device and is never sent to us unless you submit a score. You can clear it any time by clearing this site's data in your browser. We don't use cookies.

Hosting logs

The site is hosted by Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel automatically logs basic request details (such as IP address, browser user agent, the page requested and the time) to run the service, keep it secure and help us fix errors. These logs are kept for a limited time under Vercel's retention settings and policies.

No ads, no tracking

We don't show ads, we don't use analytics or tracking scripts, we don't use social media pixels, and we don't sell or share personal information. The site loads no third-party scripts or fonts.

Who else handles data

• Vercel: website hosting and server functions.
• Upstash: the scoreboard database and short-lived rate-limit counters.
• Klaviyo: the launch email list.

These providers may process data in the United States and other countries.

Children

This site isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us an email address or a scoreboard name with personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us to access, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, and you can unsubscribe from emails at any time. Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or US state privacy laws) you may have additional rights, and you can complain to your local data protection authority. We'll respond to requests within the time the law requires.

Changes

If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top. If a change is significant we'll say so on the site.
